OPEN STUDIO

Arlene Ashack, IBVM

As Rumi, the 16th century poet says, "There are a hundred ways to kneel and kiss the ground."  One way is through art, which leads us to a new way of seeing. The Open Studio is an offering of time and space to come together and share the energy of other artists, whether writers, poets, sculptors, painters. No formal teaching is offered; no requirements are given. Just come and "do your thing" in the atmosphere of an art studio and in the company of kindred souls.
Bring your own materials.

Zen Doodling

Arlene Ashack, IBVM

As part of our ongoing “Art as Prayer” series consider Zen Doodling as a type of prayer, as a form of meditation. At some time in our lives we’ve all doodled. It is a mindless way of distracting ourselves and usually done without thought while focused on something else.

Zen doodles however, are doodles mindfully approached. Done in a focused way they help center us, open us to our creative self, and attune us to the divine Creator. So many people say “I can’t sit still long enough to meditate.” Zen doodles offer an answer to such a dilemma.

No talent needed! Just come and allow yourself to be surprised…. and bring a black pen (or a set of colored pens) and an unlined notepad.

Wisdom Writing Circle

Karen Kuchar

Writing opens windows into our inner life. Writing can keep us centered, help us discover new aspects of ourselves and new perspectives on our lives. When we join as a community of women who write, we discover ourselves and share our discoveries in a safe circle. . . "We only need to be willing to learn who we are and what the depth of our soul truly wants and needs to express. While sharing our writing, we learn to trust the process and thereby trust ourselves." Peggy Tabor Millin, Women, Writing and Soul-Making
The circles will meet in sessions of four weeks. Each meeting will include a time to write, share and an opportunity for the group to respond.

Potter's Healing Hands

Massage Therapist:
Leslie Dorn, LMT, BCTMB

Welcome to “Potter's Healing Hands” and Leslie Dorn

Leslie is new to Loretto Center. The mission of Potter’s Healing Hands Massage Therapy is to enhance the wellness of massage clients by providing relaxation, stress management, and soft tissue injury rehabilitation through therapeutic massage.

About Leslie

Leslie’s background is in the Fine Arts. She is a Studio Potter. For her, working with clay and working with the body’s musculature are one and the same. Whether you are throwing a pot on a wheel or standing upright you are ultimately finding balance between the external and internal forces of a body. In Pottery, when there is balance the pot stands upright. With the human body, when there is balance your body can heal and you may even feel ease of movement. Leslie loves working with her hands and believes that there is healing through massage therapy. So now her journey has taken her from that of a Studio Potter, to that of a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)
